Government and Policy

1000 Friends of Wisconsin's mission is to promote sound land use planning policies on the state and local levels, such as:

  • Land use planning initiatives that help local governments plan for responsible, efficient and sustainable development.

  • Balanced state transportation systems that provide a variety of transportation choices for the state's citizens.

  • Traditional neighborhood development programs that encourage building compact communities rather than sprawling subdivisions.

State and local government policies have a significant effect on how our state grows, what that growth looks like and how it functions. By lobbying the state and local governments to address the important land use issues now facing Wisconsin, 1000 Friends of Wisconsin will work to ensure that the public is heard during land use debates.

We can't do it without you! We work hard to convey our members' concerns and ideas on land use issues to legislators; however it is still critical that they hear from you directly. See our "Legislative Resources" section below to find out who your legislator is and how to contact him or her:
