Transportation in the State Budget

In order to understand how the transportation needs of Wisconsin’s citizens are met, it is imperative to understand the state budget process.  It is in the budget process that funding allocation decisions are made for each of the programs within the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, from aids to local governments for transit to the amount of bonding that will be used to pay for highway expansion. 

In the 2003-05 Budget, $4.88 billion dollars was allocated to WisDOT.  This amounts to nearly $1000 per resident.  If you are concerned about how your money is spent, please refer to these pages:
