Southeastern
Wisconsin – Downtown Milwaukee Intermodal Station
The success of a balanced transportation system and the economic, social,
and environmental benefits that come with it hinge on efficient, accessible
connections between modes of transportation. Renovations being made
to the downtown Milwaukee train station seek to achieve such connections.
The Milwaukee Intermodal Station
project consists of a $5.4 million public/private partnership overhauling
the existing Milwaukee Amtrak Station. The key feature of the project
is that Amtrak passenger rail service will be linked with intercity and
regional bus, Milwaukee County Transit, and taxi and limousine service. These
linkages are particularly important considering the extension of Amtrak
service to General Mitchell Airport currently under construction. Additionally,
the project includes the development of commercial and office space. The
projected completion date for the project is mid-2005.
