The outcome of the city will depend on the race between the automobile and the elevator, and anyone who bets on the elevator is crazy. True life is lived when tiny changes occur.
By far the greatest and most admirable form of wisdom is that needed to plan and beautify cities and human communities.
It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.
The trouble with land is that they’re not making it anymore. Trend is not destiny. It’s not the plan that’s important, it’s the planning Amateurs accustomed to emulation made great places. It is the professionals of recent decades that have ruined our cities with their inventions. If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people.
