Promoting Healthy Communities
1000 Friends engages community members to help make decisions about the places they live – emphasizing the need for transportation choice, walkable neighborhoods and public spaces. All these options lead to healthier and more environmentally friendly communities.
The goal of our Great Neighborhoods project is to engage local community members in making decisions about their communities, with an emphasis on transportation choice, public health, and strengthening the local economy.
Placemaking & Walk Appeal
By following the principles of placemaking and designing our places to have better walk appeal, we can encourage more people to walk, bicycle, and take transit, which will take some cars off the road and make us all safer and healthier.
