Oak Creek may back down on eminent domain of farmland

In the wake of staunch opposition, Oak Creek Mayor Dick Bolender today said he would urge the Common Council to drop plans to use its eminent domain powers to acquire land owned by a 94-year-old farmer.

Earl Giefer’s family has said they have no interest in selling the farm at 10523 S. Howell Ave., which has been in family since the 1800s. But city officials say the25-acre property would impede plans for a business park nearby and believe the farm qualifies as blighted.
