5 test wells determine sufficient water amount

Town of Waukesha — The Town Board Monday authorized two separate legal actions to block City of Waukesha’s construction of five shallow wells adjacent to the Vernon Wildlife Area.
The town likely will seek judicial review in Waukesha County Circuit Court of a July 1 state permit to dig five high-capacity test wells at the same locations the city has proposed for production wells, Town Attorney Jim Hammes said. The test wells will determine whether there is sufficient water in the aquifer for permanent production wells.
A separate lawsuit likely will be filed in Waukesha County Circuit Court seeking an injunction preventing construction of municipal wells on town land zoned for agricultural use, Hammes said. Creating municipal wells on the land would be inconsistent with the town’s zoning code, he said.
